Primers & Undercoats

Every lasting paint job is built on the coat you never see. This collection covers marine primers and undercoats for all surfaces: epoxy primers for osmosis protection and below-waterline work, underwater primers and antifoul tie-coats such as Primocon, one-pot primer-undercoats for topsides, prop and outdrive primers, and conversion primers for tricky surfaces - from International, Hempel and Epifanes.

Primer choice is decided by what sits above and below it: bare GRP below the waterline wants epoxy, new antifoul over an unknown old coating wants a sealing tie-coat, and gloss topsides want an undercoat that builds and sands smooth. Preparation does the rest - degrease, abrade, dust off, and observe the overcoating times on the tin, which matter more than most people think.
