Fox's Chandlery has been supplying the East Coast from Ipswich since the 1930s, and this is the whole chandlery in one place: inboard and outboard engines with the oils, filters, tanks and controls that keep them running; dinghies, tenders and the pumps, oars and repair kits that go with them; and the navigation shelf that has equipped generations of local crews - charts, pilots, almanacs, compasses and plotting instruments.

Behind those three headings sits everything else a boat consumes in a season. If you are provisioning for a refit, replacing something that failed on passage, or you simply do not know what the part is called, the counter is the shortcut: bring the old one in, or call, and we will identify it and find it. That has always been the real service a chandlery offers, and it is why so much of our stock never appears in a catalogue.

What is a chandlery?

A chandlery is a shop supplying everything a boat needs to operate and be maintained - rope, fittings, anchors, paint, engine parts, safety equipment, navigation gear and clothing. The name comes from the ship's chandler who provisioned sailing vessels; the job is much the same today, minus the salt beef.

Do you stock parts for older boats?

Frequently, yes. Much of what we hold is not on the website, and we can source obsolete and superseded parts through our trade suppliers. Bring the old fitting or its part number to the counter and we will match thread, size and material rather than guess.

Can I collect an order from the shop?

Yes - order online and collect in Ipswich, or come in and buy from the shelf. Local knowledge comes free with it: we sail these waters, and the advice about what works on the East Coast is usually worth more than the price difference on the part.
