Transducers

The transducer is the part of your electronics that actually touches the water - and the right one makes the difference between crisp, reliable readings and guesswork. This collection covers depth, speed and temperature transducers plus fishfinder and CHIRP sonar transducers, in thru-hull, in-hull and transom-mount formats from Raymarine, Garmin, Airmar and other leading makers.

Choosing comes down to three questions: what data you need (depth alone, depth/speed/temp triducers, or full sonar imaging), your hull material and deadrise (bronze for wood and GRP, plastic for GRP, never bronze in a metal hull), and what your display supports - transducer connectors and frequencies must match the plotter or instrument driving them. Tell us your display model and hull type and we'll confirm the right unit.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between thru-hull, in-hull and transom transducers?

Thru-hull units pass through the hull for the best performance, in-hull versions shoot through solid GRP from inside (no hole, slight sensitivity loss), and transom mounts bolt to the stern - best for outboard-powered planing boats.

Will any transducer work with my chartplotter?

No - the connector, frequency and power rating must match your display. Most brands use their own connectors, though many Airmar-built units are available with brand-specific plugs. Check compatibility before buying.

Can an in-hull transducer read through a cored hull?

No - in-hull transducers only work through solid GRP. Cored or sandwich hulls scatter the signal, so those boats need a thru-hull or transom-mounted unit.
