Tanks & Fuel Treatments

Keep your fuel system clean, sealed and reliable. This collection brings together everything between the filler cap and the engine: portable fuel tanks and jerry cans for petrol and diesel, fuel lines and primer bulbs, inboard and outboard fuel filters, transfer pumps, funnels with built-in filtering and fuel treatments and additives.

Contaminated fuel is one of the most common causes of engine failure at sea. Diesel bug, water and debris all build up quietly in tanks - a good filter, a filter funnel and a regular dose of the right treatment prevent most problems before they start. We stock treatments for both petrol and diesel, including stabilisers for winter lay-up and biocides for diesel bug.

Frequently asked questions

What is diesel bug and how do I prevent it?

Diesel bug is microbial growth that lives at the fuel-water interface in diesel tanks, clogging filters and lines. Prevent it by keeping tanks full to reduce condensation, draining water, and dosing with a diesel biocide treatment.

Should I treat fuel before winter lay-up?

Yes - add a fuel stabiliser and, for diesel, a biocide before winter. Fill the tank to minimise condensation and run the engine briefly so treated fuel reaches the whole system.

What size portable fuel tank do I need for an outboard?

Most small outboards run from 12-25 litre portable tanks. Size it to your typical range with a reserve - roughly a third more fuel than you expect to use.
