Navigation Lights

Be seen, stay legal. Our navigation light collection covers everything required to light a sailing yacht or motor boat correctly: port and starboard bow lights, stern lights, masthead and steaming lights, tricolour and anchor lights, plus replacement lenses and bulbs. We stock both traditional bulb fittings and modern LED navigation lights from leading marine brands.

The configuration you need depends on your vessel's length and whether you're under sail or power - the COLREGs specify which lights, at which angles and visibility ranges. LED units draw a fraction of the power of filament bulbs, a real advantage on sailing yachts at anchor or on passage overnight. Check your light's certification covers your boat length, and carry spare bulbs for any filament fittings.

Frequently asked questions

What navigation lights does my boat need?

Under 7m with low speed you may only need an all-round white light, but most sailing and motor boats require port and starboard sidelights and a stern light, plus a masthead (steaming) light when under engine. Requirements scale with vessel length under the COLREGs.

Are LED navigation lights legal?

Yes, provided the fitting is certified to the required visibility range and angles for your vessel size. Buy complete certified LED units rather than putting LED bulbs into fittings designed for filament lamps.

What is a tricolour light for?

A masthead tricolour combines port, starboard and stern sectors in one low-power fitting for sailing yachts under sail only - it must never be used at the same time as deck-level sidelights or when motoring.
